I'm distracted and either cleaning, learning about cooking...or perusing expensive kitchen utensils that fortunately haven't been purchased ;-) But now I have someone even more wonderful to distract me.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">Meet Luke and Marianne's new brother, Bob 💓💓💓</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ965DI2wuiSPxxOlJaLvJmzmL7d17DaT8D9cyKWpspP6ddiuYHEXDxrCMsaGRplVY4m5MGo_LFriaGLun6AQ0KYX5dkY9L4ZesTnmS6XYDvTRqBQq5_GBrhfKdM3vhKiFjueohYpi_nkJ/s2016/IMG_6938.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2016" data-original-width="1512" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ965DI2wuiSPxxOlJaLvJmzmL7d17DaT8D9cyKWpspP6ddiuYHEXDxrCMsaGRplVY4m5MGo_LFriaGLun6AQ0KYX5dkY9L4ZesTnmS6XYDvTRqBQq5_GBrhfKdM3vhKiFjueohYpi_nkJ/s320/IMG_6938.JPG" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: verdana;">He's about 5 years old and just about perfect. I've never had a new guy fit into the family so quickly. We just got him yesterday! He has as much energy as Luke so there is much playing despite having just walked them briskly almost 4 miles. Luke is quite happy with his new brother and Marianne is content as well. She likes dogs. We've had to wait quite awhile for a new addition and God provided the best one!</span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3TYzkRWO72_8T0HhS67uvkIbaxy4UxhKsDNSiiq-4EP_hp0bX79Dr3V0FACLeqoO-_CqqPJ0oZiu89YYznh5W-bGHL3AFUasKMYReuut9usr82-DNqLoVMWYXOgK1wIDJqOWkgTzCjfV2/s1814/Bob+and+Luke.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1287" data-original-width="1814" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3TYzkRWO72_8T0HhS67uvkIbaxy4UxhKsDNSiiq-4EP_hp0bX79Dr3V0FACLeqoO-_CqqPJ0oZiu89YYznh5W-bGHL3AFUasKMYReuut9usr82-DNqLoVMWYXOgK1wIDJqOWkgTzCjfV2/s320/Bob+and+Luke.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; text-align: left;">Bob and Luke</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: verdana; text-align: left;">Have a blessed Sunday everyone!</span></div><p></p>Lorishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14378229521840536213noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4496570732346599794.post-77833506725699438682020-08-19T10:39:00.000-07:002020-08-19T10:39:57.173-07:00Working title<p><span style="font-family: verdana;">It's a serious kind of day here in California with too many wildfires to follow. Fire season has started early and just adds to the overwhelming challenges of this year. Our neighborhood is relatively distanced from danger so I just spend time praying for those that are not. I especially pray for the firefighters working all of this. The sky tells of the story this morning. There's only one fire I know of on our central coast, I think about 15 miles from home.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn-0mV_8jMWnUY-byS5HbI_GRgT7D1tctT755YAlnu69IpvXL8aNtqE1GAkUf8GDkdrk2nIKHmOpLYDGQlBMsX-LkuZbUDwBUxJZ259uviSOeqxhctq0UQ_tUpXZ0agObXs2-CnzdUJuZs/s1632/fire+sky.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1632" data-original-width="1224" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhn-0mV_8jMWnUY-byS5HbI_GRgT7D1tctT755YAlnu69IpvXL8aNtqE1GAkUf8GDkdrk2nIKHmOpLYDGQlBMsX-LkuZbUDwBUxJZ259uviSOeqxhctq0UQ_tUpXZ0agObXs2-CnzdUJuZs/s640/fire+sky.jpg" /></a></div> <span style="font-family: verdana;">So I'm a bit distracted from sewing. </span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">Yesterday, however, I got started on the borders for my cats quilt.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHDwrx3M1ZQYwV_Q_WI80QxpRbnOpofSS7-8j9pHdtD08GuxydAKIA5dUYjfR6NOEPThsJN6WqgVs2qqPLiNl1J-JENbdZnwCEb78buAUiRjtKJXdd38FVqLdQQObrYUBUfFgMgF1gaXXg/s1632/IMG_6864.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1224" data-original-width="1632" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHDwrx3M1ZQYwV_Q_WI80QxpRbnOpofSS7-8j9pHdtD08GuxydAKIA5dUYjfR6NOEPThsJN6WqgVs2qqPLiNl1J-JENbdZnwCEb78buAUiRjtKJXdd38FVqLdQQObrYUBUfFgMgF1gaXXg/s640/IMG_6864.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><span style="font-family: verdana;">Only 27 more of these 10" pieces to go :-) </span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;">Praying you are all safe and healthy.</span></p>Lorishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14378229521840536213noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4496570732346599794.post-49739018141647717772020-07-24T10:13:00.008-07:002020-07-24T11:54:10.717-07:00Finally getting pictures to post<font face="verdana">Not sure what my trouble is but sometimes it takes me forever to take photos of my quilting to get ready for a blog post...especially those just in progress. But I finally just laid some blocks on the floor and did it though I spared myself laying out all of them ;-)</font><div><font face="verdana">I don't have that many UFO's but my PIG's (projects in grocery bags...or drawers etc) or just patterns with plans is on the larger size. My DH wanted to see this one done as it is going to hang in a room with many cat paintings and a Kliban the Cat tshirt quilt. So I got some courage together and got started. Selecting fabrics was my first challenge till I realized all the homespuns I'd collected and how much fun it would be to use them. </font></div><div><font face="verdana">The next challenge was in printing out the patterns for paper piecing...especially as our printer was dying. But it got done and with some trial and error I re-learned paper piecing which I hadn't done in a long time. Not cutting fabric too small for the intended sewing was one of the first lessons to be re-learned. But I hurdled the fabric selection and started sewing, accomplishing one block and tail in a few hours. I'm not a fast one but I had a good time and soon all 20 were sewn.</font></div><div><font face="verdana">Here are 4 :-)</font></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu_qyV7ownUDEwofeKgootzP5aB91u6XPfrn_j3F7sksmFx5Xajfjra3COMI0ya2srSYoXV7SaD2Nr03TICZwVqqiAK9USBJkNpamg1T4ixz8YJ5d97dtoOPLed162x9q2FMyWmRWk0a3v/s1632/IMG_6825.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1632" data-original-width="1224" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhu_qyV7ownUDEwofeKgootzP5aB91u6XPfrn_j3F7sksmFx5Xajfjra3COMI0ya2srSYoXV7SaD2Nr03TICZwVqqiAK9USBJkNpamg1T4ixz8YJ5d97dtoOPLed162x9q2FMyWmRWk0a3v/s320/IMG_6825.JPG" /></a></div><font face="verdana">There is another side piece to add to the blocks and some sashing where the tails will be appliqued. I had thought that I had utilized every technique I knew (and with homespuns!)...paper piecing, curved piecing, applique and with embroidery that will be a finishing touch to the cat faces...but then I remembered hand piecing and probably more that I don't recall at the moment. But anyway, this has been challenging and an enjoyable way to use my homespuns and make cats.</font></div><div><font face="verdana">Marianne who continues to eat well and defy some health challenges, joined me as I sewed the last one together.</font></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxgR7B0IrU_YUofZSp2Z3dCN0ui5a-1cArpd5cJnjei37DjMg3jWdg5V3hIM_qlvO3buPtzYZmjS0_odKv0308XxsIA8l8IgV_cyeF-ZoGWfYpnysC-gkqPKws-9enHOtaGX2Mh8KneHUC/s1632/IMG_6817.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1632" data-original-width="1224" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxgR7B0IrU_YUofZSp2Z3dCN0ui5a-1cArpd5cJnjei37DjMg3jWdg5V3hIM_qlvO3buPtzYZmjS0_odKv0308XxsIA8l8IgV_cyeF-ZoGWfYpnysC-gkqPKws-9enHOtaGX2Mh8KneHUC/s320/IMG_6817.JPG" /></a></div><font face="verdana">She keeps me comforted and awake too early. HA!</font></div><div><br /></div><div><font face="verdana">After the last block, I took a quilt break and made some more masks as well as some hair covering caps for nurses in Texas where the hospitals are overwhelmed with Covid-19 patients. My friend, Julie, is in the midst of it and is generously helping her co-workers to stay safer. She is so inspiring, how could I not want to help too?! She shared <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=NDgLEUfJ2f0" target="_blank">a good video</a> for how to make them and I had a good time sewing them up. I pulled from some florals and I think their unit might look a bit like a fabric garden. LOL but I hope they all feel some love from us quilters and are protected a bit more as they do such challenging work for us and our families. </font></div><div><font face="verdana">Here's my picture of some that I made.</font></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjtRbL7ntPHDbDw5pdctHFKWgqxi3Zkjm_ojIpxSosZzEkDtOylgk0camxeeV3gI9Jl56YxLpH0fJmaMmRwqJSP9DaWPWj39C6JkBYHidlCTOffQbrXuQukIIh7Ub68CD4vuRxP9ioMTtL/s1632/IMG_6803.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1632" data-original-width="1224" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjtRbL7ntPHDbDw5pdctHFKWgqxi3Zkjm_ojIpxSosZzEkDtOylgk0camxeeV3gI9Jl56YxLpH0fJmaMmRwqJSP9DaWPWj39C6JkBYHidlCTOffQbrXuQukIIh7Ub68CD4vuRxP9ioMTtL/s320/IMG_6803.JPG" /></a></div><font face="verdana"><br /></font></div><div><font face="verdana">But check out Julie's <a href="http://juliekquilts.blogspot.com/2020/07/caps-for-caregivers.html" target="_blank">post</a> for more about all the caps sent in. <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/p/hands2help-2020.html" target="_blank">Hands2Help </a>was a great success this year with over 117 quilters making quilts to share and well over 500 quilts made! I believe the numbers are still being tallied. Many vendors also supported the effort by providing gifts for those making quilts. Sarah has had the big job of getting those off to the quilters and my treat came this week with a sponsored gift by MODA :-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A cute bag with some mini charm packs inside.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Thank you, MODA and thank you, Sarah for all the inspiration!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The finish this week comes from sewing up some beautiful fabric from <a href="https://robinpickensinc.com/" target="_blank">Robin Pickens</a> called Painted Meadow. This fabric is so cheery to sew and I just plain had a wonderful sewing with it :-) I chose a pattern called Twinkle by Sew Be It. I bought this pattern years ago and I'm sorry I couldn't find a link for it on the web. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I modified the size of the pieces a bit so I could take full advantage of a layer cake. It ended up about 62" X 72". Luke helped me a bit with modeling but even with cookies...he would not smile despite being a happy boy.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Welcome Hands2Help quilters! It indeed has been an odd year for all of us. My quilt sewjo was a bit strained for a while and sewing masks seemed to be all I could do. I was rejuvenated watching the <a href="https://gequiltdesigns.com/blogs/ge-happenings/hope-quarantine-quilt-along-2-event" target="_blank">HOPE Quarantine Sew Along</a> with Gudrun of GE Designs. I made a quilt for Little Lambs Foundation which I shared a couple of weeks ago.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtwWps7y9PgnOgJwAyy6lTLkj2wHueibJV_6S6ep9r6QGaQSeAewd94a6VuktiHBk8AoGr-ajSawCLY4_Ks7QEgsWdR0tP38IhwJPRqqh4SAMKy1ZIECKixfPj-aQT3NFDlqxW6PxJ-V8V/s1600/Hope+baby+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="701" data-original-width="1141" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtwWps7y9PgnOgJwAyy6lTLkj2wHueibJV_6S6ep9r6QGaQSeAewd94a6VuktiHBk8AoGr-ajSawCLY4_Ks7QEgsWdR0tP38IhwJPRqqh4SAMKy1ZIECKixfPj-aQT3NFDlqxW6PxJ-V8V/s320/Hope+baby+quilt.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And then I went on a little shopping spree :-) <a href="https://www.quiltinaday.com/" target="_blank">Quilt in A Day</a> sends emails out each day with special prices on certain items. They posted a <a href="https://www.quiltinaday.com/shoponline/notion/235406" target="_blank">foot pedal pad</a> by Martelli that caught my interest. Hmmm, Martelli usually knows what they are doing....maybe I'll try that. (Spoiler alert: it's awesome! My sewing machine foot pedal now stays right where I need it and this thing is easy to keep clean!) </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then of course I started looking for other items to add...you know, to take advantage of shipping ;-) Some little needle threaders went into the cart, a <a href="https://www.quiltinaday.com/shoponline/notion/Fat-Quarter-Strip-Stick-22-1-2/207825" target="_blank">strip stick</a> for pressing seams, and oh my an <a href="https://www.quiltinaday.com/shoponline/notion/OLISO-Yellow-Mini-Project-Iron-with-Trivet/220410" target="_blank">Oliso mini iron</a>!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUEsrrwuuQjIyIhsJemBs-1hBBBc9KwNy3ZFeMHsSv3ytj_lSbb9ueHgGI7OUa8erVItH6BpXcqqHnGCC8bGyK00KjfCIN9EsBhK07cKhaNOd7KjqWbIsaLTwQbikWJCuWV95wJqszpNFF/s1600/IMG_6681.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUEsrrwuuQjIyIhsJemBs-1hBBBc9KwNy3ZFeMHsSv3ytj_lSbb9ueHgGI7OUa8erVItH6BpXcqqHnGCC8bGyK00KjfCIN9EsBhK07cKhaNOd7KjqWbIsaLTwQbikWJCuWV95wJqszpNFF/s320/IMG_6681.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">and then...a <a href="https://www.quiltinaday.com/shoponline/ruler/Creative-Grids-Stripology-Squared-CGRGE2/199133" target="_blank">Stripology Squared ruler</a>! This all was quite a treat to get in the mail and I needed to start playing with the fun items. So yesterday I cut and sewed another HOPE quilt using more of leftover Robin Pandolph fabrics. I can't believe how many quilts I have made from these and there is just a bit left.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It is not sewn together yet but I will get this put together and quilted and in the mail with the other one this week. It was such a fast, fun pattern to sew.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I do not have quilt holders at present and it occurred to me that the only real large area I have for showing these HUGE quilts was my driveway. Not an interesting backdrop but with the foggy skies we have this morning, I decided to give it a try. Marianne came out to help but was not really interested in posing. So for a finish in less than a year...I present my 2 Bonnie Hunter quilts that I started in the guild classes last June.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">First class and first finished last September was my version of her Emerald City, Sage and Seaglass (named after the Kim Diehl fabric that I used for most of my fabric choices).</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It was my second choice of the classes but became my favorite.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Next up is my Straits of Mackinac where I used mostly fabrics from Janet Clare's 'More Hearty Good Wishes' with a piece from 'Weather Permitting' on the back. With the whales and ships, a Storm At Sea pattern seemed fitting. I purchased a fat quarter bundle of the fabric and then when the option to take Bonnie's Straits class came up, it seemed like the perfect fit. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Though the pressing and finishing of this quilt about did in my desire to quilt (!), I'm happy to say I completed it and enjoyed some new choices for white neutrals that include the cute crabby fabric as well as some anchors and other choices. I have certainly learned a lot from making Bonnie's quilts that will hopefully inspire me in the future.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So we wish you a Happy almost end of May and pray you are all safe and healthy! <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm not very fast but I'm sewing them up for neighbors and truck drivers and grocery clerks. My local nurses haven't been asking for them much yet. <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Ahhhh, what to say about this odd time we are living in. I'm praying for the health and emotional strength for many...individuals, groups like those on the front lines, communities,...the world. We are seeing sadness like never before as well as the heartening witness of some good and some very brave acts. We will all have the choice to grow during this time. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Still moving kind of slow in the sewing department but look at this adorable picture of Marianne blessing my new quilt. <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">One thing keeping me in the slow lane is pressing the Straits pieces. I finally figured out a plan I can live with and am halfway through pressing and sewing the sashing to rows. It's not perfect but with some steam and my tailor's clapper that <a href="https://needledmom.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">NeedledMom</a> </span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">(Thank you, Mary!)</span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">recommended to me, I am slowly making some headway. It's easy to find something else to do ;-)</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzZXb2UadQ3_12vtEV5SWgprF7Bghc0KjTAbyzhFdEx7nlmr68WgXLGrIyLK6tWForqPoz4Yxfw7xkKOjZFB28FiLJg4AXDE9zFOGebE0K0ExcV8DzEXMjidvLtaUxp2FotaGi7Y9cQdLg/s1600/IMG_6495.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzZXb2UadQ3_12vtEV5SWgprF7Bghc0KjTAbyzhFdEx7nlmr68WgXLGrIyLK6tWForqPoz4Yxfw7xkKOjZFB28FiLJg4AXDE9zFOGebE0K0ExcV8DzEXMjidvLtaUxp2FotaGi7Y9cQdLg/s320/IMG_6495.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Also in the very slow stitching department is my applique project. This was to be machine applique but I didn't like the look so I'm doing the applique by hand. It is coming along but I'm not moving very fast. I love Sharon's inspiration for fabric and design though so I will keep it going and hope to enjoy it finished someday soon. Here is one corner on it's way.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> We are expecting rain here soon on this dry, California coast. It's like anticipating a party here in Cambria. People get thrilled about the prospect of rain. :-) I hope your weekend is shaping up with something happy in it.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Not feeling up to picking up the Straits piecing without Elinor here, I pondered what to do. A squirrel trail led me to Pinterest where an unrelated inspiration sparked my interest. I saw an image and then a short video by <a href="https://www.afewscraps.com/" target="_blank">Christina Cameli </a>and found a design that I wanted for my Dandi Annie quilt of January last year. So Marianne and I headed upstairs to the longarm and quilted my <a href="https://robinpickensinc.com/products/positively-bohemian-quilt-kit-twin-size-in-dandi-annie-fabrics" target="_blank">Positively Bohemian</a>. Christina's design is symmetrical and consistent...mine is a far cry from that (LOL) but fortunately, it is a forgiving design that I really had a good time quilting. My DH does not love all this pink (coral) and lime green but I do!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The fabric by Robin Pickens is very fun and happy. I think she might even have a kit available (which is a better way to go than the FQ's) if you're interested. Funny, I looked back in my posts to see when I made the quilt top. I had written that for Christmas (2018), I had gifted myself the fat quarter bundle of this Dandi Annie. Well, guess what I asked for this last Christmas... Robin's line that came out last fall, <a href="https://www.robinpickens.com/blog/painted-meadow-fabric-with-coneflowers" target="_blank">Painted Meadow</a>. I'm seeing a fan trend here. HA! I have a pattern picked out and plans but they will have to wait for awhile. But can you blame me for wanting it? Look at these beautiful bees!</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The iron is not on here but Marianne has taken to wanting to be close to it when it's hot! She's cold as she is kind of skinny and dealing with both kidney disease and possibly lymphoma. Lots of veterinary things going here. She's doing actually pretty well with fluids and meds and heating pads. Still being a happy, active cat and keeping me on my toes. I have baskets etc to block her from getting close to the iron when I'm using it.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The next step was to sew most of these into 84 rows for sashing. I am well on my way and happy to say this step is going much more quickly.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">First one...</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ7j8Z2p73W5cCdHfkiFWvMVylRyoUMWMACGuP6yMGUaRQTsYOVp8u9vbWoMQvbmShFBSqxAEUX3G9m0sJ3MmM6wZa_RKGpq2-rCU788y0GIfw28qOgo-rPTBfcRQ1sjAl5RyUKCypqdyP/s1600/IMG_6399.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ7j8Z2p73W5cCdHfkiFWvMVylRyoUMWMACGuP6yMGUaRQTsYOVp8u9vbWoMQvbmShFBSqxAEUX3G9m0sJ3MmM6wZa_RKGpq2-rCU788y0GIfw28qOgo-rPTBfcRQ1sjAl5RyUKCypqdyP/s320/IMG_6399.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And now in the morning light, 55 are completed and pressed...</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi61BOD9NYQUtpK2c1A_qViX4qKQmTvnwhI0KMgpQoNQMFhyphenhyphenBfGYf71GdbEaXUp9SniH3h8Fh675aHYzm4gGFzSSWFO5BTA4XRr32oNwF_avQUhIY8JRjg1VooU6XASxlmtQ7_E1QwSWnYm/s1600/IMG_6400.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi61BOD9NYQUtpK2c1A_qViX4qKQmTvnwhI0KMgpQoNQMFhyphenhyphenBfGYf71GdbEaXUp9SniH3h8Fh675aHYzm4gGFzSSWFO5BTA4XRr32oNwF_avQUhIY8JRjg1VooU6XASxlmtQ7_E1QwSWnYm/s320/IMG_6400.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Laying all the blocks and sashing out is going to be a challenge. I need a big design floor! I think to help with this step though I'm going to see if i can sew sashing to a side of each block and then have bigger pieces to move around. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">My dear Elinor has been helping as well...keeping the blocks pressed.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I seem to be in the middle of a few projects here which is kind of different for me. But it has made celebrating the Season a bit more fun....especially as I've avoided cleaning the house so far ;-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Straits of Mackinac took the forefront for awhile. I have four more blocks to sew together. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLiRKVX-eO5U9Uv1fAPORxyDoNkrvrpPlm0JWotsu11DkF1-rvzTTwxUE0RBTquzNFUq7jp7qRpfjvQc9lcNuiQF1HTirRC4215tQN-dWRRGIT0C8FyQp5tmOqv-Ywb4cTwr74U8uZxKYy/s1600/IMG_6358.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLiRKVX-eO5U9Uv1fAPORxyDoNkrvrpPlm0JWotsu11DkF1-rvzTTwxUE0RBTquzNFUq7jp7qRpfjvQc9lcNuiQF1HTirRC4215tQN-dWRRGIT0C8FyQp5tmOqv-Ywb4cTwr74U8uZxKYy/s320/IMG_6358.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The flowers for Autumn Bouquet are languishing a bit. I have seven more to stitch together.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig_MwrxSHN2dtH02GDLkYh_MYzc5sFxabVOt_NcuyrTteJazIBeUD227X-_UpX_YlYDu85vQsxDc-d9gzYC6ouq7X_xGn-PId1vU8Ebnm3rSwjOTEfF-Z6bGUMnqhiz1iBQpFIrb55B2-p/s1600/IMG_6359.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig_MwrxSHN2dtH02GDLkYh_MYzc5sFxabVOt_NcuyrTteJazIBeUD227X-_UpX_YlYDu85vQsxDc-d9gzYC6ouq7X_xGn-PId1vU8Ebnm3rSwjOTEfF-Z6bGUMnqhiz1iBQpFIrb55B2-p/s320/IMG_6359.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Temecula's Tiny Tree is what got most of the attention. I had fun sewing the finished size 2 1/4" blocks into the tree. The background pieces gave me some fits and I had to re-do them using my second choice of fabric. The problem may have been that my seam to sew the blocks together was too small and thus the blocks too big ...rendering the background measurements too small. I may test this out and see if I can get it right using the pieces I originally cut for it....or I'll just cut them bigger and try to keep all those points for the finish. It was a lot of fun sewing those little blocks each day.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAGJQ58sHH9tw-HJxy4OHq4OsMYRV-MHu-vM1jhQj7q8Wcycw1xX2r8GLFs2R-aOYLEfCm2naf4jsf7To0WpzJVWbxUk74EhxiAPptbKs2Oao_DEwRmOsnbvbmYbRZAfqFbZddwtVvFf3F/s1600/IMG_6355.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAGJQ58sHH9tw-HJxy4OHq4OsMYRV-MHu-vM1jhQj7q8Wcycw1xX2r8GLFs2R-aOYLEfCm2naf4jsf7To0WpzJVWbxUk74EhxiAPptbKs2Oao_DEwRmOsnbvbmYbRZAfqFbZddwtVvFf3F/s320/IMG_6355.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This also needs a bit more quilting on it. But it's a Tree!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Another project popped up on <a href="https://quiltdoodledesigns.blogspot.com/2019/12/lets-do-some-holiday-baking.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+QuiltDoodleDoodles+(Quilt+Doodle+Doodles...)" target="_blank">Quilt Doodles blog</a>. She designs a lot of cute applique designs that she sells on Etsy and showcased one with a red mixer...just like my sister's!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Had to make this for her :-)</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Happy December to you all! It's beautiful here today in between rain storms. We are blessed with rain this year and that is a big deal here in drought ridden California. And it makes for some nice stitching weather :-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So for the applique project...I was not liking the machine stitched look so I switched to doing it by hand. This is going pretty well and I'm just enjoying it, not rushing it. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk7bfDs0wZ82W8nqSBP0E9SUPp2-J8NrJqaxpK-LE1djwO2QXwE9gAej4tgQoZ4Qjm_w3EALH5AmC9CExU4EnaebKFWLjAB0qKyirSx4YgJh7URv0ud9CSlOScAIuHkditsMlRvYIQD6zt/s1600/IMG_6304.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk7bfDs0wZ82W8nqSBP0E9SUPp2-J8NrJqaxpK-LE1djwO2QXwE9gAej4tgQoZ4Qjm_w3EALH5AmC9CExU4EnaebKFWLjAB0qKyirSx4YgJh7URv0ud9CSlOScAIuHkditsMlRvYIQD6zt/s320/IMG_6304.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And this let me get back to my machine...I finished up sewing the triangle in a square units and am really enjoying sewing all the units together into the 12" blocks. I had removed the tan/browner background pieces and am much happier with the white based neutrals. I'm enjoying some of the fun neutrals I found to include...especially, of course, those crabs! There are 36 blocks to sew and I'm almost half way this morning. After that will be the all important sashing that will give the look of curves in this Storm at Sea variation. This has been a great way to enjoy Janet Clare's More Hearty Good Wishes fabric with whales and birds and ships.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Inspired by Temecula Quilt Co, I'm joining with a sew along to make a cute Tiny Tree quilt. These blocks look greener in person but it was funny that I noticed <u>after</u> I posted the picture on Instagram...that the center of the friendship star is the wrong fabric. Not sure if I'll change it or not. I will see how the blocks look as we sew along. These are 2 3/4" blocks so they are pretty quick to sew.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Life has been busy and I'm finding prepping flowers for my table runner to be a bit of a challenge. I've only done a bit of applique and the prep is always what slows me down. Sharon has a different technique for using freezer paper where she places the freezer paper shiny side up on the wrong side of the fabric. The edge of the fabric is then pulled over and ironed to stick to the freezer paper. So I'm not so hot at this. LOL I tried a couple of different techniques that I've used before...hmmm, still not too good and went back to trying the way Sharon does them. I have lots more to prep so hopefully I will improve :-)</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Last month I told you all about the Autumn Jubilee going on over at <a href="https://frommycarolinahome.com/" target="_blank">From My Carolina Home</a>. I hope you had a chance to go check out all the inspiration. And the prizes even just for visiting! I think it was last year when I won some LED lights for my sewing machine...that I liked so much that I bought an additional set for my longarm which work wonderfully. This year I was kind of blown out the water again....with a gift card to <a href="https://www.fatquartershop.com/" target="_blank">Fat Quarter Shop</a>! Fat Quarter Shop is rather generous as I see them as sponsors to many endeavors. I'm sure many winners of their gifts have as much fun as I did! When the day came for me to do some online shopping, I felt a bit like a kid in a candy store with money to spend :-) </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My choices were some notions that I had been thinking about. I started with the <a href="https://www.fatquartershop.com/quilting-notions/sewing-notions?notion_manufacturer=8081" target="_blank">Diagonal Seam Tape</a> by Cluck Cluck Sew. Useful for lining up the stitching line and I may not have to draw lines for HST's. I've tried a couple other versions of these notions but they seem difficult to get out of the way of my feeddogs or stick to the presser foot and dislodge. This tape just sits in the front of the presser foot and doesn't get in the way of anything. So far so good!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> The Slotted Trimmer finally seemed useful because I started pressing triangle seams open and this is a great pre-pressing way to square them up.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then I picked out a new seam ripper and the navy blue Splash rotary cutter...well, just because it was a fun new color :-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And then a gift...not pictured and some fabric. So a big Thank You! to Carole for hosting such a fun and inspirational Autumn Jubilee and to Fat Quarter Shop for their generosity and awesome product line up! This was quite a treat!</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And here is Elinor helping me with how to lay them out.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9e7FZpcSP34oblxfkGtk782scroA_C8fHqvQ4ApZgmjtUDtRf5jnn9OVkX4zUR5FkyEjYdMjQ0oG9JfLbPPQDjo0CiWmWLr_eImrThkrkxIFpXloDHhb-pabodMyn8cA9j7w8uWv2Z31T/s1600/IMG_6262.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1307" data-original-width="1019" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9e7FZpcSP34oblxfkGtk782scroA_C8fHqvQ4ApZgmjtUDtRf5jnn9OVkX4zUR5FkyEjYdMjQ0oG9JfLbPPQDjo0CiWmWLr_eImrThkrkxIFpXloDHhb-pabodMyn8cA9j7w8uWv2Z31T/s320/IMG_6262.JPG" width="249" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And this is as far as I've gotten with a 3" (finished size) string border.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbe8prraksQLOCk4HwcJzCPGIUtNjJegQbDB2yicd8HTKo85BThwTign59JLYzG-jkZEhnBqw8v_RDlDjp4JaR3N2V-IE8gd4EBZvRuGGh0COTalnp2rsnMzNWbfd8XDM2zasJ3Ec6TPrb/s1600/IMG_6268.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbe8prraksQLOCk4HwcJzCPGIUtNjJegQbDB2yicd8HTKo85BThwTign59JLYzG-jkZEhnBqw8v_RDlDjp4JaR3N2V-IE8gd4EBZvRuGGh0COTalnp2rsnMzNWbfd8XDM2zasJ3Ec6TPrb/s320/IMG_6268.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I have made some bias strip vines to applique on the borders and today I'm picking out fabrics to use for leaves to go with them. The bias vines were fun to make as I used a <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Clover-Fusible-Bias-Tape-Maker/dp/B00E5LCBGQ/ref=sr_1_16?crid=1HG59T3NR6LB9&keywords=clover+bias+tape+maker+1%2F4&qid=1573070938&sprefix=Clover+bias+tap%2Caps%2C213&sr=8-16" target="_blank">Clover bias tape maker</a> which I'd never used though I bought it about 25 years ago :-) Better late than never. It worked well though I think the fusible tape that I used with it may be too old to provide any adhesive when I go to apply it to the borders. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So I've got a good start on my Straits of Mackinac. I cut out most of the pieces in about 3 days. HA! Lots of pieces! </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkorA08pFeXYNPOzlH1rCdmjYqF9x2wau8yiD3hvWZHFgE52W-Rz3aVXkG9adwaZjhYK7IHjs6j5YbedL8wsvTRzodqJvdFFTgFkpoI5FPD8xJNaNhMdb9c9FjnKmAQVziWxRUNqkEZo-O/s1600/IMG_6224.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkorA08pFeXYNPOzlH1rCdmjYqF9x2wau8yiD3hvWZHFgE52W-Rz3aVXkG9adwaZjhYK7IHjs6j5YbedL8wsvTRzodqJvdFFTgFkpoI5FPD8xJNaNhMdb9c9FjnKmAQVziWxRUNqkEZo-O/s320/IMG_6224.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I cut out strips for the HST's (half square triangles) and layered a neutral and a blue one right sides together and then used Bonnie's <a href="https://quiltville.com/shop.html#!/Bonnie-K-Hunters-Essential-Triangle-Tool-List-$24-95-BIG-SALE/p/69971252/category=13129325" target="_blank">Essential Triangle Tool</a> to cut out 576 triangles that are all paired and ready to sew together. And then I cut out about 144 of just blue ones for the square in a square blocks and the squares needed.</span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> From strips, I also cut out some triangles using the Tri Recs ruler for triangles in a square block. Lots of cutting!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">As I'm cutting, I make stacks of 10 and then gather 10 stacks and put them in labeled baggies to keep track of how much I've cut!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Last week I worked on getting my square in a square blocks more accurate.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I only needed 36 but it still took a bit of time.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwgOsv44-AbAKehz2sp1l-agZFfwR2EWOyOKrrZFqSeBRrXT1A9XylbYUJ3v5OAjfiNGTC3yrEoqXK3S_dRCpcY9sRqBD7ElioW1EG1N-HomMOm9GPPebI-0wGuYlgXHtDn4uezWt-YbpO/s1600/IMG_6223.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwgOsv44-AbAKehz2sp1l-agZFfwR2EWOyOKrrZFqSeBRrXT1A9XylbYUJ3v5OAjfiNGTC3yrEoqXK3S_dRCpcY9sRqBD7ElioW1EG1N-HomMOm9GPPebI-0wGuYlgXHtDn4uezWt-YbpO/s320/IMG_6223.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This week I'm sewing all those HST's. I'm about done with the sewing. I've trimmed off the dog ears and pressed more than half so maybe today I'll get these done and start putting them together in those 4 patch settings.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRXR2qDjwc5rElC5Txk-8myiQ1YbdcuG4B9UhB5aME7w2HmG14cCAbUnEWVJt-Cen_pEfdZO3uTe9EQufHX_sJDCNowGMNlix4KphjZo7KNeGz_lKEoIfk8QjmctYr4xoklDZn3Chs8Wsd/s1600/IMG_6225.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRXR2qDjwc5rElC5Txk-8myiQ1YbdcuG4B9UhB5aME7w2HmG14cCAbUnEWVJt-Cen_pEfdZO3uTe9EQufHX_sJDCNowGMNlix4KphjZo7KNeGz_lKEoIfk8QjmctYr4xoklDZn3Chs8Wsd/s320/IMG_6225.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I mentioned back in the post right after my class that a friend ...who I didn't get contact info from! :-( shared some really cute crab fabric with me. I searched the Web and found one fat quarter still available. Yay! So I'm thrilled to have these in my triangles. Absolutely, my favorite here and they remind of a quilter's kindness.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> I will work on the strings needed for the triangles in a square block after the 4 patch units :-) Happy Fall Stitching everyone!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It's a quilt! I was able to do the quilting right away but it took me awhile to get help with the photo documentation. This is one big quilt!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I used a favorite panto on it called Feathered Curls. I have others that I like as well but the designs seem a little big for the smaller pieces I tend to put in quilts. So here is my Bonnie Hunter, Quiltville Emerald City that I'm calling Sage and Seaglass as most of the fabric in it is from Kim Diehl's fabric line of that name.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This picture shows the colors in the fabrics a bit clearer.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb2XRNQM-bov_UcFWa76oRJ5FF4o7MepEh_m_Ir_03Npip9jTrYJatwfFgNaik21iSyUEHQB9QThh1WKho7-_oip0JOlTX3skq_CxzCQ41HpT4Qql4QentaLRglVQkZqC3GXe5A1ugqNX9/s1600/IMG_6177.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb2XRNQM-bov_UcFWa76oRJ5FF4o7MepEh_m_Ir_03Npip9jTrYJatwfFgNaik21iSyUEHQB9QThh1WKho7-_oip0JOlTX3skq_CxzCQ41HpT4Qql4QentaLRglVQkZqC3GXe5A1ugqNX9/s320/IMG_6177.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: verdana, sans-serif;">The photos are a little odd from being taken inside the house but we have some limitations for the helpers available for holding it. The backing is completely off color wise. I backed it with this gorgeous (I think) poison green fabric that I've had for awhile. It was very fun to being able to use it here.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQcdbVtZc3av-WUKHTn_1cfrkVIrhaiWN5RsXKSTMEqbQzlxZQMKK6zF2WMk_9EIEMsdY1WL3Q9evWmlTmt841_ECfrMGu7qex5B8XhOmXzpmnpNS784etEy3dMp1QnmaPxVjorLeL3dpr/s1600/IMG_6216.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQcdbVtZc3av-WUKHTn_1cfrkVIrhaiWN5RsXKSTMEqbQzlxZQMKK6zF2WMk_9EIEMsdY1WL3Q9evWmlTmt841_ECfrMGu7qex5B8XhOmXzpmnpNS784etEy3dMp1QnmaPxVjorLeL3dpr/s320/IMG_6216.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I really enjoyed making this. I was so happy that I was able to learn in a class setting as the book instructions seem very different than the more 'Bonnie like' way steps that she taught. I have launched into making my quilt from my second class of Straits of Mackinac and have found the same difference to the book instructions. It's helpful that she shares so much about how she does things in her blog posts so I can approach the book instructions with that in mind.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is just a peek and a quick snapshot but I hope to get going on preparing the backing and get it quilted...hopefully this week.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Progress on my Emerald City shows that I completed making the HST's</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlTIOOE2WQWGdJkl0bdC8MbFt1-j9EUd9bf9obPS3USeOj13ThvxnZqZ2E56BnolC0mnFG_4ZC_BR-dbEvXXRM25UT16L0yZNwVQFRbatW3bn94cjQGjouDRyK72igh3NsG3TyX98jqzxv/s1600/IMG_6142.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlTIOOE2WQWGdJkl0bdC8MbFt1-j9EUd9bf9obPS3USeOj13ThvxnZqZ2E56BnolC0mnFG_4ZC_BR-dbEvXXRM25UT16L0yZNwVQFRbatW3bn94cjQGjouDRyK72igh3NsG3TyX98jqzxv/s320/IMG_6142.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">and started sewing them onto the strip pieced blocks</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaXhEEuucjIQFpBhkwY3rpysCAauvGd6-o7BYHUQp8QzMpOo1E1ozv0s71sYS1hOOFi1eJ0qw9Px26zd6rxHbC8aq6PX4jVAxyJeEVUK8de505XuiGvmu4L2g-olFJjxnPYIlr-QRo8E0m/s1600/IMG_6172.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaXhEEuucjIQFpBhkwY3rpysCAauvGd6-o7BYHUQp8QzMpOo1E1ozv0s71sYS1hOOFi1eJ0qw9Px26zd6rxHbC8aq6PX4jVAxyJeEVUK8de505XuiGvmu4L2g-olFJjxnPYIlr-QRo8E0m/s320/IMG_6172.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">and now I can finally start sewing these unit blocks together. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Four of these units will make one quarter of a block.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And four of those units makes a block.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Onward I go :-) from small pieces to huge blocks!</span><br />
