Pictures from PIQF

More from the World Competition that I liked.

Mary Mashuta was a showcased quilter with beautiful quilts and a book about her quilting designs and techniques. I love her use of fabrics and her beautiful style of design both in the quilt making and in her choices of quilting. Simple and elegant.

Only a little bit of hand stitching going on here as I have been busy with other things. I hope to get back to some machine stitching this weekend and to show you some of the treats I found at the quilt show. more later :-)

A Finish and PIQF

Several years ago I was able to fly to New Hampshire for MQX and then drove onto Maine for a few days just because I love it there.  I found a sweet little quilt shop in Exeter and bought a quilt kit just for a souvenir. I finally sewed it up this past week! Better late than never!

Much more recently...as in this past weekend :-) I went to PIQF in Santa Clara and enjoyed the overwhelming fun of over 300 vendors (!) and an even larger number of quilts. A few of the show winners were my favorites but as usual, I enjoyed the World Competition quilts most of all.

This show winner Octupus was amazing!

This show winner was beautiful! So I have a picture of the artist...but not her name...Sorry, should have paid attention to what I was doing.

I will show more pictures in another post but this is one from the World Competition. It was so clever and interesting! The tag below explains it. I was struck through out the show just how imaginative people are. 

October beginnings

October must be one of my favorite months. Even though our days are still pretty warm here, the nights are cooling and we are getting a small sense of the changing season.  It is also the month for PIQF up in Santa Clara :-)
I bought the quilt pattern I'm using here and a stack of fat quarters from A Quilter's Dream last year. I sewed the smaller version of this pattern over and over this year and have finally sewn up the larger version just in time to complete what I bought last year before heading up to find new designs.

My draw to this fabric was mostly the lime green. The cats in one of the fabrics and the sunflowers are my favorite. 

I used a grey Superior's Rainbow thread to quilt a sunflower pattern. Hobb's 80/20 for the batting which I think is my preferred batting as it leaves the quilts soft.
